MK Test wanted to extend and update their operation in Wellington to create a new Delivery and Innovation Centre. The centre was also to provide a new customer demonstration area and meeting space.
Bespa’s key objective was to create a brand new look and feel to MK Test’s Wellington business. Starting with a complete strip out of the building gave us a blank canvas on which to build our design. Working with MK’s Marketing Manager, we designed an interior that reflected the needs of the business, whilst incorporating the company’s branding.
Colours within the company branding have been used throughout the design, both on hard finishes and furniture upholstery. Bright primary colours are complemented by softer tones on paint finishes and a pale shade of grey on the floor finishes.
Fundamental to the nature of MK’s work, and to ensure staff comfort and wellbeing, we installed a new air conditioning system throughout the building. As a testing centre, which includes a laboratory, we used specialist finishes, such as anti-static flooring fitted on the first floor which accommodated anti-static desk finishes. This followed on from the epoxy resin finish fitted on the ground floor area.
On the ground floor, we introduced a client presentation space where the MK team can provide demonstrations and presentations of finished products in a client facing environment.
Additional bathroom facilities to accommodate an increase in headcount formed part of the ground floor design. A tea-point, also built into the ground floor space provides an informal seating area for both colleagues and visitors.
Furniture was selected with finishes to reflect the company’s branding. Task chairs were specified to provide ergonomic seating suitable for testing and desk work, whilst lounge chairs were included for collaboration, meeting and visitor spaces.
One of the key requirements was to increase the level of storage. To make efficient use of the available space, we built a bespoke system under the existing staircase, which provides neat and accessible storage.
We installed a new data system to support the infrastructure and IT requirements of the engineers working upstairs in the innovation space. The installation of new security and fire alarm systems also formed part of our refurbishment project. The application of security film to all windows provides both a security measure and additional temperature control within the building.
The finished design presents a modern, vibrant and functional working environment for both MK colleagues and visitors, whilst reflecting the identity of the business.
A design to provide an all new 'Delivery and Innovation Centre' for MK Test in Somerset.
