The Brief

Jurassic Fibre, previously in serviced office space, wanted to create a new environment where the business could grow, and importantly provide a space where employees want to be and have the opportunity to flourish. Jurassic found a new office space at Milford House, Pynes Hill, Exeter over two floors, with a newly upgraded outside shared terrace space to accommodate their growing headcount. The building offers a large area of Grade A workspace and benefits from plenty of natural light.

The Space

Bespa's objective was to create a new home for the Jurassic team to support the evolving hybrid work style, whilst allowing the flexibility for growth and a space that promotes wellbeing and the ability to collaborate and engage with the culture of the business.

The results of Bespa’s staff engagement gave a clear indication of what the employees wanted:

“We want to create an amazing space where people want to come to work, a place to collaborate for innovation and a space that provides a sense of energy in what
Jurassic Fibre are creating.”
(Quotes from SLT Interviews)

Our design provides a flexible workspace which enables employees to move easily between activities and the ability to interact comfortably with colleagues. We introduced a colour palette, which, enhanced by a good source of natural light and the use of biophilia, has created an enlightening environment with a bright and welcoming reception area.

A variety of collaboration spaces was a fundamental requirement, and so our design incorporates a mix of large open areas for natural collaboration, ‘huddle’ areas, tea-points and breakout spaces allowing staff to meet and work in comfort. Meeting rooms have been designed to accommodate large and smaller meetings with the introduction of moveable walls to provide complete flexibility and ensure efficient use of space.

Permanent workstations are strategically placed around the perimeter of the main office space to benefit from the high levels of natural light. In addition to permanent workstations, touchdown areas provide an area for remote and hybrid workers in the form of hot desks. This provides all employees with the ability to work and connect with colleagues. Each bank of desks includes a ‘sit stand’ desk option to accommodate those wishing to alter their working position throughout the day.

We worked with an AV consultant to advise and deliver reliable internal and external communications solutions to meet Jurassic’s needs. All employees are supported by an IT Support Bar, which enables employees to address any IT issues they experience and avoid unnecessary downtime.

The request for areas of privacy has been met with the use of acoustic partitioning and single booths for adhoc phone calls. For those seeking additional privacy, we created a Wellbeing Room dedicated for personal peace and quiet and multi faith space. Soft lighting and muted tones have been introduced to create a restful, more home from home environment.

Throughout, the colour palette of neutral warm tones have been combined with muted and bold colours on furnishings and hard surface finishes. The overall design presents an uplifting environment for all employees and visitors to Jurassic.
